How do I get to Venice from Marco Polo airport?

You’re about to visit Venice, and like many, you’ve probably booked a direct flight to the City of the Doges. Your plane will land at Venice-Marco-Polo Airport (VCE), which is 13km from Venice, or Treviso Canova Airport (TSF), which is 30km from Venice. Now you need to choose your transfer from the airport to downtown Venice to reach your hotel. On this page, we’ve prepared a guide to help you understand the different options, and make an informed choice, with all the practical information you need to book your transfer online.

The cheapest, yet comfortable: Transfer from Marco Polo airport to Venice by ATV0 bus.

The best solution is the ATV0 35 Venice Airport Bus Express, which is faster than the ACTV 5.
This ATV0 shuttle is much more comfortable (luggage storage, air-conditioning, WiFi on board, clean seats), but at the same price: €10 one way and €18 return, with no time limit.

These shuttle buses, run by a private company, leave every day from 6 a.m. to 00.20 a.m. every 30 minutes (current timetable) from Marco Polo airport (VCE) to Venice, and from 4.20 a.m. to 10.50 p.m. from Venice to Marco Polo (current timetable).

It’s easy to get on: you just leave the terminal and they’re right in front of you, so you don’t need a map.

You’ll arrive at Venice Nord: Piazzale Roma. From Piazzale Roma, you’ll need to take a vaporetto to your accommodation.

If you arrive at Treviso airport: Transfer from Treviso airport to Venice by ATV0 Bus.

The ATV0 Treviso Airport – Mestre Railway Station – Venice Piazzale Roma bus service is fast (1h) and comfortable (luggage storage, air conditioning, WiFi on board, clean seats): €12 one way and €22 return, with no time limit.

These buses, run by a private company, depart every day from 7.40 a.m. to 10.20 p.m. every 30 minutes from Treviso airport to Venice and from 4.20 a.m. to 7.00 p.m. from Venice to Treviso Canova airport, stopping at Mestre railway station and Corso del popolo in Mestre.

It’s easy to get there: you leave the terminal and they’re right in front of you.

You’ll arrive in Venice Nord: Piazzale Roma. From Piazzale Roma, you’ll need to take a vaporetto to your accommodation.

Another option is to take a train from Treviso station to Venezia Santa Lucia station, close to the city center. Trains run occasionally from 6:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., and the journey takes around 35 minutes. Tickets cost between €3 and €5 per person, depending on the type of train chosen.

If your accommodation is in Murano, Lido, Giudecca: Transfer from Marco Polo airport to Venice by Alilaguna (yellow boat).

The ALILAGUNA public boats are interesting because they allow you to arrive in romantic Venice by sea, as soon as you step off the plane.

You’ll go from the air with your plane, to the sea with its smells and the horizon of the lagoon and its famous islands. It’s much more romantic than a bus.

But don’t be fooled: there are different ALILAGUNA lines serving different destinations, including probably yours.

Because of the many stops along the way in the Venetian lagoon, the journey can take up to 1 hour 50 minutes, and the walking time to the ALILAGUNA pier is around 10 minutes, with conveyor belts and protection from the sun or rain.

  • The Blue Line (blu) from Venice airport, the ferry terminal (allow 1h50), with stops at Murano Island (30 mins), North Venice (Bacini – Ospedale – Fondamente Nove), Lido (1h) and St. Mark’s Square (1h30). Departures every 30 minutes from 6.15 a.m. to 00.40 a.m.
  • The Orange line (Arancio) will take you from Venice airport to St. Mark’s Square in around 1h15, passing through the famous Grand Canal and making several stops.Very convenient if your hotel is located in the heart of Venice. Departures every 30 minutes from 07:45 to 00:20.
  • The Red Line (rossa): from Venice airport, takes you to the island of Giudecca, Zitelle stop (in 1h20), via the island of Murano (in 30 min.), the Certosa (in 45 min.), the Lido (in 1h) and Saint Mark’s Square (in 1h15). Departures every hour from 09:40 to 18:40.
  • The Green Line (verde) takes you on a 4h30 excursion to the islands of Murano, Burano and Torcello, for €20 with a tour guide on board, and a 40-minute stop on each island. Moorings: Ferrovia S.Lucia, Alilaguna Zattere, Alilaguna San Marco Giardinetti Reali

Getting to the Alilaguna from the airport is easy: at the airport: follow the sign “Trasporti via d’acqua/Waterway Transport” (blue signs) which will take you to the second floor of the terminal: there you’ll find the Moving Walkway, an elevated pedestrian walkway with conveyor belts, which will take you effortlessly to the Alilaguna Dock.
